Single Plate Installation and Material List for Slim Jim® & Geo Lake Plate®
Single Plate Application - Stainless Steel
The illustration below shows one method of installing a Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate® in a pond/lake application.
Suggested list of items used for this type of installation:
(1) - 1-1/4” Brass 90º Elbow Threaded
(1) - 1-1/4” Brass Coupling Threaded
(2) - 1-1/4” PE Fusion Male Adapter (1-1/4” Socket x MPT Transition Adapter)
(1) - (Set of 2) Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate ® Legs
60” Legs for 48" tall plate
36” Legs for 24” tall plate
(1) - Stabilizer cut to length of the Slim Jim ® / Geo Lake Plate® with PVC pipe caps glued in place (installed above the plate)
48” Tall plate
6” sch 40 PVC pipe
24” Tall plate
4” sch 40 PVC pipe
Stainless Steel 300 T-Bolt Hose Clamp or Stainless Steel Screw Bands to attach the Stabilizer at each handle1 location along the top edge of the plate (Two at each handle1 location)
48” Tall plate
(4) for 6” sch 40 PVC (6.75” OD) 5' thru 8' long plate
(6) for 6” sch 40 PVC (6.75” OD) 12' long and over plate
24” Tall plate
(4) for 4” sch 40 PVC (4.75” OD) 5' thru 8' long plate
(6) for 4” sch 40 PVC (4.75” OD) 12' long and over plate
Misc.
Rebar in workable lengths (used to overcome buoyancy of the HDPE pipe and allow the liquid filled HDPE pipe to sink to the bottom from the shore to the plate)
Nylon wire ties (used to secure the rebar end-to-end to the HDPE pipe from the shore to within 10' of the plate)
Teflon Tape (wrap all male pipe threads)
Stabilizers allow the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate® to float just beneath the surface of the water until placed into position for submerging. Once the plate is positioned and flushing of the loop system has started, the stabilizer allows the plate to slowly sink and stay vertical until the legs are resting on the floor of the body of water. Once all the air is removed from plate the stabilizer will keep the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate® in the vertical position without any additional support. The stabilizer is not removed after the installation is completed.
Note: The fluid flow from the Heat Pump equipment must enter the lowest connection on the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate®. The fluid flow returning to the Heat Pump equipment must exit the highest connection on the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate®. This will ensure any air remaining in the system will not be trapped in the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate®, for proper operation and maximum performance follow the Installation Requirements / Criteria for Slim Jim® & Geo Lake Plate®.
Systems on any earth/lake loop in extreme conditions may call for auxiliary heat. When the return water to the unit is ≤32°F and the unit calls for auxiliary heat, the auxiliary heat should be designed to stay engaged until the thermostat is fully satisfied regardless of loop type. In most applications a relay will need to be added to keep the supplemental heat engaged until the thermostat(s) are fully satisfied. This will allow for down time and loop regeneration. Additional information may be obtained on this subject by contacting AWEB Supply.
Multiple handles are standard on the Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate® . The handles are designed to support the empty weight of the plate only during handling and assembly. The handles are not designed for permanent suspension/hanging of the plate and may result in damage to the plate. Stainless Steel Hose Clamps or Stainless Steel Screw Bands can be used to attach the Stabilizer to the handles. Connecting the stabilizer to the handles will keep it vertical during its decent as the plate are flushed until the legs are resting on the floor of the body of water.
Assembly Application - Stainless Steel
The illustration shows one method of installing a Slim Jim® / Geo Lake Plate® assembly in a pond/lake cooling dominate (HR) application.
Suggested list of items used for this type of installation:
(2) - 3” Butt Fusion 90º Elbow
(1) - 3” Flange Adapter Kit (available thru AWEB Supply) Transition from flange connection to HDPE pipe
(7) - Stabilizers - 6” sch 40 PVC pipe with PVC pipe caps glued in place (one above each plate)
(42) - Stainless Steel 300 T-Bolt Hose Clamp or Stainless Steel Screw Bands (6.75” OD) to attach each stabilizer to each handle1 location on the plate (two at each handle1 location is suggested)
